Dear Parents of Class 3,
I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break. This newsletter is aimed to keep you up to date with classroom routines and inform you of future topics.
Over Terms 5 and 6, our topics will be 'Romans', 'Materials', 'Solids, liquids and how they can be separated' and 'Forces'. In Literacy, we will be looking at Myths and Legends, Information Texts, Poetry and Report writing.
Ways in which you can support your child in their learning:
Research the 'Romans' with your child using the Internet and non-fiction books.
Discuss the materials that are used to make objects and why they would have been chosen.
Share some Myths and Legends that you know.
Share some poetry with your child. Discuss why you like it, what patterns are used and why words may have been chosen by the poet.
Discuss what forces are in use to make things go or work.
We will also be having an Arts week. Details will follow in newsletters.
School trip – I am planning to take the children to the Roman Baths later on in Term 5. I will send out a letter nearer the time.
Homework diaries – Children will continue to fill in their Homework Diary every Monday. We ask you to look at this with your child to help them prepare for the week. Could you please sign the diary to indicate that they have shown you. I look at the diaries every Friday to award Headteacher stickers for reading. If you hear your child read or your child reads for a sustained period by themselves, could you please indicate by initialising. If you have any important messages for me, please encourage your child to hand in their diary to me. I will initial or reply to show I have read the message.
Spellings – We follow a structured spelling scheme provided by the National Strategy for Literacy. Your child will have a set of spellings to learn every Monday, however they won't be tested on these in school. If you would like to test your child, you can do this at home. If they get them all correct, this can be indicated in their Homework Diary and I will award them a Headteacher sticker. They should be able to discuss the pattern with you. There will also be times when children will have a list of topic words to learn.
Homework – Your child will continue to have Maths homework every Wednesday. This will be linked to the work they have been doing in school. They have a week to complete the homework. If your child struggles with any of the work please write on the homework sheet or encourage your child to tell me so we can follow this up in school. It is also useful to us if you let us know the amount of support they needed.
PE - Your child is responsible for having a full PE kit in school at all times. In Terms 5 and 6 we will be having PE with Mr Hallet on Monday afternoons and Netball on Thursday mornings. We will also be increasing our daily physical exercise, so on the other days we will be doing some short sessions to raise our heart rate and keep us alert.
Again, I ask you to encourage your child to be as independent as possible. This means coming into school by themselves, carrying their own things and passing on messages and notes to me or the office.
This looks to be an exciting term! It has been great to see how much the children have matured and progressed since September, and I look forward to sharing in their learning in terms 5 and 6.
Thank you,
Marie Mallett
