PARENTS MEETINGS
Thank you to everyone who came along to Parents Meetings this week, we hope that you found them useful. Please remember that you are welcome to come in to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher at any time if there are things you would like to discuss or to let them know what’s going well through homework diaries.

WORLD BOOK DAY
Well done to everyone who came dressed up to represent their chosen non fiction book to celebrate World Book Day yesterday. We had a great variety of outfits! Thank you for the effort you all put in to these. Every child was given a book token worth £1 which can be exchanged for one of the six specially produced books.

WELL DONE …
…to Cameron, Bea and Megan who organised the ‘Copper Cuppa’ collection for Haiti. So far they have raised £214.46. Thank you to everyone who returned their plastic cups full of coppers. Thanks also to Erica Wiltshire for her help with the idea.

POP’ N’ GO
Class Four has had a busy first week with their ‘Pop N Go’ project, selling popcorn at snack break. It has proved to be very popular with all classes! As with the toast, each class is collecting money for orders at the beginning of the day and then the popcorn is distributed to the children. Please send your child in with the correct money for popcorn as it makes the management and organisation much easier for the children.

PARENTAL ADVICE FOLDER
We have a blue folder in the lobby called the Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) file which is full of advice, strategies and tips for every stage of parenting. For example there’s a really good section on raising resilient children. If you would like to borrow the file, please sign it out from the office and take it home to read through! Sign it back in to the office when you return it. You are very welcome to photocopy any pages that you are interested in, but please do not remove any from the file.

CAN YOU HELP?
Our Topic Focus this term in Class 1 and Class 2 is ‘People Who Help Us’. We are looking for parents, grandparents, friends or relatives who work in a ‘helping role’ in the community to come and visit the children in the classroom to tell them a little bit about what they do. We are mainly focusing on the emergency services, the police, ambulance and fire service, but would welcome visits from a wide range of vocations such as nurses, doctors, vets, dentists, opticians etc.
If you know someone who would be willing to come in to visit the classes please could you get in touch with Su Berkley (Class 2) or Vivien Garlick/Tamsin Allan (Class One).

WELL DONE…
….to Megan, Megan, Bea, Ella, Cameron, Chloe and Katie who represented the school in the Chew Valley Netball tournament this week. Despite the cold, they played really well as a team. A special WELL DONE to Megan and Megan who came first representing Chew Valley in this week’s netball tournament, winning a gold medal!

LEARNER OF THE WEEK
Each week, every class votes for someone who they feel has tried really hard in an aspect of their learning. This week’s stars are:
Class One: Matthew
Class Two: Isaac
Class Three: Natty
Class Four: Emily

FAIR TRADE FORT NIGHT
There will be a Fair Trade and Local Food Brunch to celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight. It will take place in the Millennium Hall, Chew Magna on Saturday 6th March from 10.30am to 12 noon. Everyone is welcome!

TENNIS COMPETITION
If there is anyone in Class Three who would be interested in playing in a tennis competition at Bishop Sutton Tennis Club, 3.00-5.00pm on 27th June, please let Mrs Berkley know. You can enter a team of four (two boys and two girls.)

FEEDBACK FROM SCHOOL ACTION GROUP MEETING
Thank you to the members of the School Action Group for a useful meeting on 10th February. We used the child protection, e safety and anti bullying policies as a basis for our discussion and talked through different aspects of pupil well-being and safety.
We discussed how best to share information with parents; as a result we have reorganised the website slightly, so that there is now a ‘newsletters and information’ section with links to resources such as tips for healthy lunchboxes and the Newsround film on e-safety.
The team consists of representatives from the staff team, governing body and parents. I would welcome more new parent members to the School Action Group; if you are interested in finding out more, and could make a meeting on a Wednesday afternoon, please contact me. Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 21st April.

CHEW MAGNA CRICKET CLUB IS STILL LOOKING FOR YOUNG PLAYERS
Chew Magna Cricket Club is looking for Year Five and Six students who are interested in playing for the under 11 team next summer. The club prides itself on taking on any youngster and attempts to improve them as people, not just cricketers. Please see the poster in the playground for more details or contact Simon White.

Friends will be holding a Movie Night for children on Friday 19th March between 6.00-7.30pm. Classes Three and Four can vote for a PG film on the night, and children in Classes One and Two will watch a U film. Tickets cost £3.00 in advance, £3.50 on the night.
