Joy Harcup - Personel, Pay and Curriculum (Maths link governor)

Joy has been a parent governor since 2008 and has two children who are very happy at, and enthusiastic about, the school. Previously a lawyer, she brings over 15 years’ experience in the delivery and management of professional learning and development and sits on the Personnel & Curriculum committee. She is also link governor for Maths.

Pat Roderick - Personel, Pay and Curriculum (SEN link governor)
Term expires Sept 2010

Pat lives in Chew Magna and works on two Tribunal Appeal panels concerned with children and adults in the South West. She also volunteers at a local Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Two of her children went to school in the Valley. Pat became a governor in 2006 and is the governor link for special educational needs. She also sits on the Personnel & Curriculum committee. Pat works to build up the school’s links with the local community and reports to governors on the school’s involvement with the EcoSchools initiative.

Sarah Standing - Vice Chair (Literacy link governor)

Sarah was appointed a governor representing the LEA in 2006 and sits on the Finance & Premises committee. She is also the governor link for Literacy. Sarah’s oldest son attends the school, and she lives with her family in Chew Magna, working as a solicitor at a Bristol law firm.

Annie Spencer - Head Teacher

Alongside the chair, Annie attends all governors meetings including six full governing body meetings, six Finance & Premises committee meetings and six Personnel & Curriculum committee meetings over the year. She also meets with the chair of governors, chairs of the committees and the deputy heads in Senior Management Team meetings to look strategically at the work of the governing body. She believes the school is fortunate to have a very hard working and active body of governors.
Ken Biggs - Chairperson (Science link governor)

Ken lives in Chew Magna and is now retired. His two children attended Chew Magna Primary School while he was Head at Chew Valley School. As chair of governors, he attends meetings of both the Finance & Premises committee and the Personnel & Curriculum committee as well as regular meetings with Annie Spencer. He is also the Science link governor. Although his teaching experience was in secondary schools, he has always been interested in and impressed by the excellent work done in the school.
Nick Hammett - Chair of Finance and Premises

Nick has been a governor since 2004 when his daughter attended the school. He now chairs the Finance & Premises committee which works to ensure that school funds are spent in a way that best supports the children’s education. Nick also has governor responsibility for Health & Safety issues in school. He teaches science at Chew Valley School.

Priscilla Norgren - Chair of Personel, Pay and Curriculum (Assesment link governor)

Priscilla became a parent governor in 2007 and is chair of the Personnel & Curriculum committee which has responsibilities for staffing and for ensuring the children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. She also has governor responsibility for assessment. Two of Priscilla’s children attend the school, and she lives at Stanton Drew.

Helen Ayrton - Finance and Premises

Helen became a parent governor in 2007. Her eldest son joined Year 4 in 2003, shortly after the family moved to Chew Magna, and her youngest son started in Reception in 2006. Her responsibilities as a governor are ICT and Child Protection, and she sits on the Finance & Premises committee.
Helen Groves - Finance and Premises

Helen became a parent governor in 2009 and sits on the Finance & Premises committee. When her daughter started in Reception in September 2008 she was very impressed with the workings of the school. As an architect specialising in school design, she hopes to bring this and other experience to the role.
Alison Cross (RE) - Personel, Pay and Curriculum (RE link governor)

Alison works as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. She takes a lead role in special educational needs teaching and works with individual pupils within the school. She has governor responsibility for Religious Education. She also sits on the personel and curriculum committee. Alison enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Sharon Torrible - Clerk to the Governors

As Clerk, Sharon’s job is to provide administrative and organisational support to the governors by preparing papers for meetings, taking minutes, advising the governing body on procedures and maintaining records. She has held the post since 2004.

Marie Mallett - Personel, Pay and Curriculum (Staff governor)

Marie is joint Deputy Head and has taught Class 3 since she joined the school in 2003. She became staff governor in 2008 and is responsible for representing the staff at governor meetings. She also sits on the Personnel & Curriculum committee. Marie oversees special educational needs within school and is maths co-ordinator as well overseeing the school’s community links and running the Eco-schools project.
